Shout out to all #artists in #astoria #queens and surrounding areas!!!
It may be raining but Beer It Is- rain or shine! A few artist friends and I will be getting together next Tuesday, May 28th for Happy Hour from 5-7PM at the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden in Astoria to drink beer, talk shit, and discuss future ideas or current projects. I thought it’d be a great chance to extend the invitation to other local creatives in the area who are looking to connect as well. I’ll have a (Vega Studio) sign to note where we are and see ya next Tuesday for cheap beers but rich conversation! Cheers!

Yoko Virtual Happening 03/05/19
In honor of Women’s History Month in March, a virtual happening was conducted from March 1st-March 5th, 2019 with Yoko Ono’s book, “Grapefruit”. A selected group of people in different places were asked to ruminate on one page given daily for a consecutive five days in an effort to bring us closer- to resonate together in the world over a singular idea. The Vega Studio was the ring leader deciding what page was to be sent out for the day based on her intuitions. The participants came from locations such as Dallas, Austin, Houston, Oklahoma City, Georgia, California, Philly, Brooklyn, Barcelona, Ukraine, South Korea, and Australia. They were asked to meditate on the instructions of the day and let it move them as it may. Some were inspired to sketch, others were moved to write, and still others held unique ideas in their minds as part of the collective vibration. Themes of rituals and mindful daily practices were explored as we found humor and creative power in Yoko’s simple yet playfully abstract life instructions.

Andie McGovern- “But my Mum says I’m Cool!” 11/09/2018
Andie McGovern is an Australian- Filipino contemporary, multi disciplinary artist whose main art forms consist of sculpture, illustration and installation. Amongst other things, being pigeon-holed as a millennial has proven to be useful inspiration with most of her artwork relating to subject matters explored within pop culture. Although Andie has been making art since she was a child, it is only in the last 12 months that she has had a presence in her hometown of Brisbane’s local arts scene. This influence can be seen most notably in her latest work ‘But my mum says I’m cool’, a 32 piece sculpture series involving Simpsons subject matter, exploring each character’s vices, addiction and the perception that surrounds it. This two and a half year project will be exhibiting abroad in New York, including her third solo exhibit at Ghost Gallery (893 Bergen Street, Suite 7) in the neighborhood of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn with the opening reception on Friday, November 9th from 7PM-9PM and an online exhibition at The Vega Studio.

"The Art of Sound"- Mood Pieces by artist Rick Adams West 09/16/2017
In its premier exhibition, The Vega Studio proudly showcased the artwork and Mood Pieces of Rick Adams West in “The Art of Sound". This collaboration displayed a collection of over twenty vibrant paintings of musicians that continue to influence the artist in colorful sounds brought to life by the ecclectic likes of Bjork to Chaka Khan to Stevie Ray Vaughn. By naming these paintings, “Mood Pieces”, he allows the viewer to step into his frame of mind and become entranced by the rhythm evoked by each creation. Always quick to smile and crack a joke, this artist’s warmth and style will be one to stay tuned into for many years to come as he further develops his artistic passion in the Dallas metroplex.
